Live Review at The Phoenix, Cork

December 2005

The Sessions was the brainchild of singer songwriter Jon Leahy and was run on every second Sunday evening during the past six months in The Phoenix. These well organised and well run nights, which are due to continue in the new year, attracted crowds to see the many different singer songwriters that dropped in to sing a few songs. Sunday evening last, the evening when Cork’s Capital of Culture reign was drawn to a close, saw the last of The Sessions for this year. Chris Dunne, Bobby Lee, Jon Leahy himself and the wonderful Annette Buckley completed the line up.

Jon Leahy is a singer songwriter with his own special mould. His style is more like a toned down rock band using only acoustics. His use of the fretboard is amazing and is integrated very well into his songs. His influences come mostly from the likes of Nirvana, Metallica, Audioslave and more and its is no wonder he has almost put these styles together and created his own. His voice is well suited to his musical style and every time he performs the audience seem satisfied. Tonight is no different story with yet another solid performance.
