I'm fucking estatic to welcome amazing drummer and overall good guy Aaron Kennedy to the ranks. He'll be playing live with me in the near future and feature on my next recording. Aaron is the brainchild behind www.drummingacademy.com and suffice to say he doesn't need to be told when to start and finish the song!

In a bid to up their ratings, the Irish Tourist Board have used my images to promote live music in Ireland to unsuspecting yanks and the like. Fair play to them. If you see any of those touch screens around the country do get clicking!

Cork Independant recomends Jon on Myspace

Last thursday's edition of the Cork Independant featured me in their myspace recomendations, sharing it with none other then the amazing Mogwai and Dublin's The Pale. This newspaper is read by 70,000 Irish people every thursday so I'm chuffed to say the least. Here's what they had to say:

"The Cork Troubadour displayed an extra dynamic in recent times in organising the popular 'The Sessions', a songwriter night at The Phoenix that showcased some of the city's rising musical talent. Leahy's music itself is a highly competent blend of thoughtful lyrics and a quick surf of his myspace site is rewarded by the tones of 'Our Special', a track that featured on last years Catalytic Session, a diverse compilation of Irish sounds and songwriters. He plays De Barra's of Clonakilty on Wednesday, September 6th."

Mitchelstown Cancelled

I'm afraid I have to pull out of wednesday's gig in Mitchelstown as my axe is in the shop getting a bit of work down to it.

See ye all in De Barra's on September 6th!

Kilkenny Cancelled

Sorry to all my Kilkenny friends but we've had to pull the show sheduled for tomorrow. The tour bus (Stevo's van!) is off the road for a few days so we've no way up or down. I'd get a bus but I'm in the studio first thing the day after and wouldn't be able to get back in time.

One of the best shows I've ever done was in Kilkenny last year so I was really looking forward to it. Ah well, shit happens. I'll be back soon with my new record so until then my friends.

21 Aug 2006

Extra Tour Date

I'll be opening for the Red Sea Pedestrians in An Bodhran in Mitchelstown on August 30th so if there's any heads around looking for a good energetic show, come on down.

18 Aug 2006

De Barra's Reshuduled

The last night of the tour which will take place in De Barra's of Clonakilty has been moved from August 30th to September 6th. What an awesome show to finish the tour on. Always a great gig.

The Last Session at Nancy's

Last night was the last session at Nancy Spains as we are relocating to An Cruiscin Lan on Douglas Street. Basing ourselves there means we can put on a better show what with the sound system being one of the best in the city, a lovely big stage and it boasts a fantastic lighting system. It'll still be free in and hosted by yours trully and will kick off in September. See local press for new dates.

Two new reviews have arrived on my desk this month. One from a radio session I did in Dublin and another from when I performed with Gavin Dunne of Lotus Lullaby www.lotuslullaby.com at the launch of Fun Club in Cork. A big thanks to Brendan in Dublin and Rab in Cork for the kind words.

Jon

"Cork born Jon Leahy is a talented songwriter whose voice and guitar captivated the SIN É audience. A particular favourite of mine is "Motionless Love Letters" which he played live for the On The Verge radio show"
